Bp End Of The Year Round Up Yee Haw!
December 19th, 2013
It's true. Every year passes faster than the next. My advice? Collect experiences, collect stories, see live music. Let me rummage around in my memory hole for some personal highlights from the 2013 that was. There probably won't be much order to this thing so I hope you're not too linear. I'll just fire them up as they come to me ok.
My Favorite Big Rooms
One of the top aspects of the job (that can hardly be called a "job" in the sense that I love what I do and where I do it) is hosting our live on-air performances in The Big Room. Always fun!
Father John Misty/January 18, 2013
I came away from my chat with the former Fleet Foxes member with a desire to sit and drink with him for a few hours. Fascinating chap. His album "Fear Fun" sounds so LA to me, and I figured the city was almost a character on the record. To the contrary Father John said it was more his state of mind:
"Yeah I probably could have moved behind a burned out Shoneys and made an album out of it."
Jake Bugg/August 6, 2013
I swear when the 19 year old Bugg strolled out of the green room I thought he was a station intern I hadn't yet met. And then he sang! This kid has only scratched the surface of his talent, which is frightening because his voice will bring any room to rapt attention.
J. Roddy Walston and the Business/November 11, 2013
How great are things going for J. Roddy? Obsessed fans are now getting lyric tattoos. That's a long way from their early days when Grandma would beat the band with a wooden spoon.
Franz Ferdinand/October 16, 2013
You might notice Alex looking out as he answered my questions. I thought he was just engaging the audience. Turns out he didn't know where I was standing. Matt from Cage The Elephant made the same mistake a couple years back. I think I should be in an old phone booth or something. Anyway I loved our conversation about the origin of the song "Right Action." Inspiration is everywhere, even a humble British flea market.
Black Angels/April 17, 2013
It's pretty simple, I'm just a huge fan. I wish I could pull off the shades inside thing.
