ACPA Presents Urinetown

March 28th, 2014

The Arts and College Preparatory Academy (ACPA) will be presenting “Urinetown” as its spring musical on March 28 and March 29, 2013 at the Shedd Theater at the Columbus Performing Arts Center, 549 Franklin Ave. Curtain is at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for non-ACPA students and free for ACPA students and children under age 5.

“Urinetown” is a musical comedy that is a satire of many things, including the genre of musical comedy. It has been described as being edgy but with a biting sense of humor throughout the show. It takes all the norms and expectations of traditional musical comedy and turns them upside down, leaving audiences a little unsettled at the end, but completely entertained. This performance allowed ACPA students to work with director Alex Dodge and musical director Sharon Udoh, both experienced theatrical performers and directors. When asked about working with ACPA students on “Urinetown”, Dodge, also ACPA’s guest theater teacher, said, “The students are willing to try new things and work hard – it’s a director’s dream. They have fun so the show is fun.” Dodge went on to say, “The pool of student talents and interests has helped the show.”
