Fraternal Order of Moai announce long anticipated return of Hot Rod Hula Hop on August 9-11. Presented by the Kahiki Chapter of The Fraternal Order of Moai, Hot Rod Hula Hop 5 comes roaring back into town in August! The Hot Rod Hula Hop has become one of the mid-wests most anticipated tiki themed events with festivities including an authentic Hawaiian luau; a kustom and vintage, pre-1970 car show and scooter cruise-in; live surf, rock, rockabilly, exotica & jazz fusion bands as well as an indoor/outdoor market place featuring a wide array of vendors as well as tiki carvers, pinstripers, mixologists, musicians and many other artists. The fifth installment of HRHH kicks off on Friday, August 9th with a massive feast and potent, exotic cocktails at The Grass Skirt Tiki Room, Columbus\' newest destination for ono polynesian grinds and fine, hand-crafted cocktails. Attendees will take in the unbelievable, mouthwatering cuisine & libations along with the lush environment of this downtown oasis while being entertained by the music stylings of living legend Francis Lacuna, exotica vibraphonist Roland Remington and a raucous, lively performance by the hot jazz ensemble End Times Spasm Band to cap off the night. Saturday, August 10th offers more fun than you can shake a wooden idol at as the Hop kicks into high gear at Sequoia Pro Bowl. Goers can take in the jaw dropping cars & scooters; feast on mouth watering food; shop 'til they drop from a plethora of merchandise at the Vendor Beach or bowl until their heart is content while renown emcee Jet Sterling of the popular SURFABILLY FREAKOUT radio show drops all the hot jams. Old Familiar Barbershop will be onhand keeping everyone dapper and afternoon Hoppers can keep the party going into Saturday night as the agenda features several unbelievable acts such as the swanky, rockin' sounds of Columbus' own Vegas 66; the "tropical bedlamcore" of the local trio Apocalypso; the "lucha rock" madness of Daytons own Team Void; crunchy, grungy, fuzzy feel-good rock from Clevelands 45 Spider; spirited surf & instrumental rock from The Cocktail Preachers of Chicago, Ill.and a truly memorable performance that's guarenteed to make your skin crawl by the worlds greatest sideshow entertainer Lucky The Painproof Man. Those purchasing Saturday tickets are eligible to purchase a limited edition event, tiki mug designed by Poptiki of Colorado with a respectful nod to Columbus' long lost but never forgotten Kahiki Supper Club. On Sunday, August 11th the Hot Rod Hula Hop invites you to sample yet more of the best that central Ohio has to offer by taking in a complimentary double feature and sip down some Barleys Brewhouse as well as over 40 other beers on tap at the historic gem of Clintonville, Studio 35. Columbus’ oldest independent movie theater and draft house.
